Beaufort West to Oudtshoorn

Driving through the Klein Karoo, eating lekker Biltong we bought at a small farm stall and enjoying the open space is quite relaxing. Nothing prepared me for the sudden change in landscape as we entered the Meiringspoort Pass. Marizca was definitely right – sleeping over in Beaufort West and driving through the gorge early in the morning is certainly recommendable! It feels like driving through a scaled down version of the Grand Canyon. We stopped halfway and walked to the waterfall. The pictures don’t even tell half the story – it’s impressive.

At the other end of the pass we found the tranquil artist town of De Rust. What a nice, relaxed and peaceful little town. There is just no stress whatsoever… but we eventually had to move on to Oudtshoorn.
