FIA Competition Roadster
Projects evolve over time and this one is no different. For years I had the original picture of the Shelby Cobra 289 FIA Competition Roadster on my hard drive. Never really knew what to do with it. Cobra bodies have a perfect shape and tinkering with it usually makes it look weird. A couple of days ago one of my instagram followers suggested that I’d photoshop a Pikes Peak Cobra. Not spec’d for todays paved mountain road, but for the gravel track it had been years ago.
While looking for offroad tires to fit on the lifted body, I stumbled upon the previously photoshopped Nissan Pathfinder with its bike rack. Immediately losing focus on what I originally wanted to do, I grafted the rack on the Cobra to check what it would look like. Great! And all of a sudden there was a story to go with the chop: Most people throw their BMX bike in the trunk or pick-up bed and drive to the local BMX track. Perfectly fine, but what if you had a lifted Cobra sitting in the garage? You could ride to the track in style and enjoy the sound and torque of the mighty V8 on the way. While searching if somebody had used the hashtag #bmxcobra before, I found the COBRA BMX homepage (#cobrabmxtrack). The jumps on their nice track are too short to have fun with the Cobra and it would likely tear up the surface badly, but it would be a perfect background for a photo shoot with this rig. And yeah… you could also park it in your time machine of choice, go back a couple of decades and enter the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. A photoshop chop of such a machine will likely follow soon.
