The ugly duckling of the 2CV family
Worldwide the Citroën 2CV unites many enthusiasts. There are plenty of clubs and interest groups. They even organize huge meetings each year, one of which I visited in 2009 in Lit-et-Mixe while being on a surfing holiday nearby. But wait… the 2Cv has a sister even most Citroën enthusiasts describe as being rather… ugly.
And cars that are not embraced and loved are usually offered cheap. So, why not take a cheap and not-as-lovely-as-a-2CV Dyane and create something unique?
The stock ride height is too SUV for your taste? Well then… slam it! Mind you, these pictures have been taken before stance and rat look became commonplace.
Do you fancy an expensive paint-job? Non, monsieur.
Excellently executed Snail airbrush graphics on a rusted body panel? Oui, bien sûr!
Central locking? Non, pas du tout! For some it’s more fun to carry a keyring with half a dozen keys and locking the trunk with a padlock – Mr. Bean style.
A collection of stickers? An absolute must and interesting for passers-by not familiar with the custom side of the scene.
Welding patches of metal to the rocker panels is fun. Especially if concours condition is not what you’re aiming for. The whole attitude is best expressed with an appropriate stick… err… stencil.
Ugly? Hell no! I thought it was one of the coolest cars at the meeting 🙂
