Marché Victor Hugo Parking Garage | Jaguar Mk2
While in Bordeaux in 1999, we found this Jaguar Mk2 hanging from the side of a parking garage by chance. An ingenious installation of automotive art.
Marché Victor Hugo parking garage has been built in the 1960’s by architects Jean Dauriac and Pierre Laffitte. During renovation in the 1990’s, Jean-François Dosso added the Jaguar as a temporary art installation.
The installation went from temporary to permanent and became a landmark in Bordeaux, highlighting the buildings purpose while breaking up the modernist concrete facade. purpose pretty clearly, but it also adds a touch of literal off-the-wall whimsy to an otherwise perfectly functional, if starkly unadorned, modernist building.
