Station Wagon Conversion

The NSU Ro 80 was only offered in sedan form by the company in Neckarsulm. There have been a couple of aftermarket cabriolets and even some drawings of a coupé, but never a station wagon. Back then, wagons have been deemed to be workhorses and as NSU Motorenwerke wanted to lure more upmarket buyers from Mercedes-Benz, they didn’t want to tap into the family hauler market for exactly that reason. Based on the famous Claus Luthe design of the sedan, it may well have been an elegant conversion with lovely chrome detail on the D-pillar. This one is based on the same length wheelbase as the regular sedan, but features a longer rear overhang to increase loading capacity. Initial drafts show the Ro 80 Kombi conversion with the short rear overhang.
